Description:
Ed Dwight (American, 20th c.), "Miles Davis", patinated bronze and brass, on a round verdigris marble base, a life-size sculpture, the iconic musician depicted playing his trumpet, height 68 in., width 25 in., depth 34 in.
- Notes: Note: A former Air Force Pilot and the first African American Astronaut Candidate, Dwight has spent the last several decades creating highly textural, realistic bronze sculptures of prominent and significant figures in African American History. Many of his works are in public and private collections, including sculptures at the Frederick Douglas Memorial and the Smithsonian Institution, both in Washington D.C. The sculpture offered here of the great Jazz trumpeter Miles Davis (1926-1991), is a part of Dwight's popular series depicting the evolution of Jazz. Davis is considered one of the most influential musicians of his time; many young musicians got their start playing in his band. Dwight has chosen to depict Davis in a moment of self-absorbed creativity, with head bent and fingers firmly grasping his trumpet.
