Edward B. Lee (American, 20th c.), 'Haiti: Islanders Transporting Raw Sugar Cane', watercolor on board, signed and inscribed lower right, sight 9 in. x 14.125in., in a grey painted wood frame. Note: St. Domingue, now Haiti, was at the forefront of the early sugar industry. Emigres from St. Domingue would be pivotal in the development of Louisiana's sugar cane industry in the late 18th and early 19th c.
