Note: The Battle of Buena Vista was one of the most crucial battles of the Mexican- American War. On February 23, 1847, after having refused the request to surrender, Major General Zachary Taylor's army of 5000 repelled the 20000 man force of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana.
