Edwin Weyburn Goodwin ( American, 1800-1845, "Portrait of a Distinguished Lady, oil on canvas, signed and dated " 1843" lower left 30in. x 25in. Note: Goodwin painted portraits of many prominent mid 19th century political figures including President Martin Van Buren, William H. Seward and Dewitt Clinton. he was also an ardent Abolitionist who owned and edited the anti-slavery newspaper, The Tocsin of Liberty, and used his home as an underground railroad depot. Ref.
