E700-1000 Note: While a student at Newcomb College, Ella Miriam Wood concentrated on painting. Wood was one of the few Newcomb College graduates who ventured into the New Orleans nineteenth century tradition of portraiture. Her portraits were noted at the time for their freshness of color, likeness of the sitter and quality of design Wood was particularly known for her adept ability at painting portraits of children.
