E10000/15000 Note: In the early 1950s, Ellis Wilson received a $3000 award from the Terry Art Institute National Contest in Miami. Wilson traveled to Haiti with the award money in search of new inspiration for his paintings. The painting "Bamboche" is part of his successful series of Haiti. A December 1954 New York Times review described "Bamboche" as "this musical arrangement in the repetition of dark arms and legs adding to the swirl of the bright colored frocks."
