E4000-6000 Note: The important African-American artist Ellis Wilson's travels to Haiti had a profound impact on his work. Wilson's palette became more colorful and enlivened, shapes were reduced and simplified and he found the culture and people of Haiti exotic and intriguing. All these changes are reflected in this delightful little painting of a "Haitian Drummer." Neal Auction Company has had the rare opportunity to sell several of Wilson's Haitian paintings in our gallery, including "African Royalty", which achieved $23,500. in our Winter Estates Auction, March 4, 2006, as lot 429.
