Description:
Emilie Marie de Hoa LeBlanc (American/New Orleans, 1870-1941, active Newcomb College 1894-1905) a group of eight works, including seven oil paintings and one gouache on paper, including a view of New Orleans and a view of Italy, all signed, some titled and with exhibition labels, various sizes ranging from 16 in. x 12 in. to 25 in. x 19 in., all framed except for the gouache.
- Notes: Note: Sisters Emilie and Marie de Hoa LeBlanc were privileged daughters from an old Creole family that lived in the French Quarter. Both pioneers in the Newcomb Art program, they made yearly trips to study art, often in Europe, and traveled to many Asian countries. Marie¹s work as a designer and pottery worker was held in the highest esteem at Newcomb. Neal Auction Company set a record price for Newcomb Pottery on June 27, 2009 with a tall high glaze vase with a clematis design decorated by Marie de Hoa LeBlanc for $169,200. As this trove of work indicates, Emilie and Marie were talented painters who often depicted the Louisiana landscape and the places to which they traveled.
