French Silver Agricultural Trophy, Fanniere Freres, Paris, late 19th c., marked “FANNIERE Fres. PARIS” and with lozenge mark, silver mark rubbed but First Standard, urn-form with figural handles depicting Demeter, frieze depicting harvest scenes, silver mounted rouge marble base, h. 11 3/4 in., w. 14 3/4 in., 125 troy ozs. Provenance: Collection of Dr. Mark A. Geist, Providence, RI. Note: Francois-Auguste (1818-1900) and Joseph-Louis Fanniere (1820-1897) were awarded gold medals at several Expositions Universelles: the 1862 International Exposition in London, Paris, 1867, Grand Prix Exposition of 1878 and the 1889 Exposition Universelle.
