Lot 1233
Florida School, early 20th century., 'Where Cotee River Gulf and Dixie High Way Meet, Entrance to New Port Richey' signed 'G.R. Sheers' and dated '1924' lower left, sight 19 in. x 25 in., in a period frame. E500-700 Note: This picturesque view of the tropical River Cotee on the western coast of Florida documents the newly constructed Dixie Highway. With the goal of connecting the Midwest to the South, construction for the Dixie Highway began in 1915 and was finished by 1927. In actuality the highway was not a single road but a small network of interconnected paved roads. This charming painting of a lush Florida sunset with palm trees shows the newly paved rural road that leads into the town of New Port Richey.
