Frank Schueler (German/California, 20th c.), "Phalanx", 1993, redwood and aluminum, signed and dated on reverse, h. 56 in., w. 15 in., d. 8 in Note: A native of Germany, Frank Schueler studied electromechanical engineering before moving to the United States in 1955. He took a class in creative wood design a decade later, which led to his career as a sculptor specializing in metal, wood and plastic. The majority of Schueler’s materials are discarded or found objects, and his finished pieces take inspiration from the landscape surrounding his studio and gallery on California’s scenic northern coast. Schueler’s work has been featured in many solo and group shows throughout the United States and Germany including the California Museum of Art, Santa Rosa, and Hugenottenhalle, Neu-Isenburg, Germany.
