George Hand Wright (American, 1872-1951), "Going to Market, South Carolina", pastel on paper, signed lower right, Tiziano embossed in paper lower right, 19 1/4 in. x 25 1/2 in., attractively matted and framed.
- Notes: Note: George Hand Wright was a prolific and successful illustrator in the early 20th century, Wright visited South Carolina in 1915 where he depicted scenes of African-American life in Beaufort, Charleston and Edisto Island. The pastel offered here is a highly finished composition for Wright, who usually worked in a sparser and sketchier style. A couple rides a mule drawn cart down a path through a dense moss-laden canopy done in bright shades suggestive of spring.
