George Louis Viavant (American-New Orleans, 1872-1935), "Nature Morte Mourning Dove", watercolor, signed and dated "N.O. 1921" lower left, sight 13 in. x 11 in., in a period frame. E5000-7000 Provenance: Acquired from the artist by Dr. Martin Heidgen, Alabama, and descended through the family. An avid hunter, Dr. Heidgen had business dealings in New Orleans and traveled to the city frequently. Evidently during a trip to New Orleans, Dr. Heidgen had George Louis Viavant paint the mourning dove from a recent hunting expedition.
