Description:

George Overbury "Pop" Hart (American/Illinois, 1868-1933), "French Market, New Orleans", watercolor and graphite on paper, signed lower right, "Enoch's Framing & Gallery, New Orleans" label en verso, 14 in. x 22 1/4 in., framed. Provenance: Estate of Martha Ann Samuel, New Orleans, 2006. Note: A traveler by nature, Pop Hart found himself in New Orleans in 1917; he shared a French Quarter apartment with Jules Pascin (Bulgarian, 1885-1930) and enjoyed drawing and painting the city’s sights. Always a popular locale, the French Market’s bustling energy and variety of goods on display drew many artists, including Hart, to capture its unique charm.
