Description:

George Rodrigue (American/Louisiana, b. 1944), "The Pirogue at Bayou Black", oil on board, signed lower left, 1984, signed, titled and inscribed "#8421" en verso, "George Rodrigue Gallery, Lafayette, Louisiana" label and "Get Some Cajun Culture: George Rodrigue" sticker en verso, 11 in. x 14 in., attractively framed.

  • Notes: Note: In keeping with George Rodrigue's earliest works, this painting portrays Bayou Black's deeply Cajun origins. The typical Acadian transportation through the marshes was the pirogue, which dominates the central portion of this scene and is painted against the flat dark bayou background under the artist's iconic Live Oak. The painting itself dates from just before Rodrigue's landmark Upstairs Gallery, Beverly Hills exhibition, which secured his ascension into the national spotlight.
