An American or French Gilt Bronze and Brass Four-Light Gasolier, 19th c., faceted shade with opaline glass panes centered by a conforming pendant, reticulated and pressed surround with fleur-de-lis decoration, overall height 47 in., diameter 24 1/2 in Note: A very similar gasolier hung in the surgical amphitheatre of the Pennsylvania Hospital. The nation's oldest served as an operating room from 1804 through 1868 with surgeries performed at peak daylight hours until lighting was installed in the 1830s.
