Guido R. Bach (German/English, 1828-1905), "Portrait of a Gentleman with Prominent Sideburns", oil on canvas, signed, inscribed "d'apres un photo-graphie"and dated "1864, London" lower right, 29 1/4 in. x 24 1/4 in., in a giltwood frame.
- Provenance: Provenance: Ex-Collection of William E. Groves, New Orleans.~ Note: Bach studied at the Dresden Academy of Arts under Julius Hubner (1806-1882) before moving to London in 1862 He was known for his portraiture and scenes of village life. He was a member of the Royal Institute from 1866, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1880 and 1883, the Grosvener Gallery, and the Dresden Exhibition of 1887 Reference: Bénézit.
