Description:

Guillaume De L'Isle (1675-1726), "Special Charte der Mündung derer Americanischen Flüsse Misissipi, Iberville, Mobile,...", Hanover: 1762 [or later], copper-engraved map by Hering, plate mark, 6 1/4 in. x 7 1/8 in., sheet 9 1/8 in. x 10 in., attractively framed.
Note: This scarce map of the mouth of the Mississippi is based on the inset in Guillaume de l'Isle's map Carte de la Louisiane et du Cours du Mississippi which was first published in Paris in 1718. By 1763, a date mentioned in the title of the present map, the information would have been nearly 50 years out of date, but German emigration to the area and its changing political fortunes after the French and Indian War evidently warranted the production of this charmingly archaic map.
