Description:

Guillaume Seignac (French, 1870-1924), "Summer Idyll", oil on prepared canvas, signed "G. Seignac" lower left, with artist's plaque 93/4 in. x 13 in. E12000-18000 Note: This celebrated artist, a pupil of Bouguereau, T.F. Fleury and Gabriel Ferrier, exhibited regularly in the Paris Salons, where he received awards from 1900 onward (with a medal in 1903). This harmonious painting exemplifies his classical subject matter and fineness of execution, as well as his characteristic debt to works of the 1890s by his master Bouguereau. The relative sobriety of palette and stability of composition in this finely balanced painting make it an attractive example of Seignac's style.
