[Henry Overton], A New & Correct Map of the Trading Part of the West Indies, including the Seat of War between Gr. Britain and France.. British Empire in America, dated 1759 in title cartouche, 'printed for and sold by Henry Overton at the White Horse without Newgate, London', separately issued, copper engraving using four plates, hand colored, vignettes of Boston, New York, Mexico, Vera Cruz, Chagre, Havana, Panama, Puerto Rico, Cartagena and Port Bello; California is shown as an island; elaborate title cartouche, plate size 22 in. x 39 5in., framed. Note: This map appears to be an unknown variant of the 1745 second state. Originally published in 1741, the 1745 second state added a portrait of Admiral Vernon, to whom the map was dedicated, above the cartouche and added an advertisement dated Mar. 25, 1741. This variant changed the dedication to Admiral Boscawen, and changed the advertisement date to Mar. 25, 1755. Rare in any state, only a few prints of this map are known to exist.
