Howard Chandler Christy (American, 1872-1952) , "Reputedly Marie Renoudet Dietlein", oil on canvas, signed and illegibly dated lower right, 52 1/4 in. x 36 3/8 in., framed. Note: Howard Chandler Christy was one of America's most distinguished illustrators. His career was established during the Spanish American War when he worked for Scribner's and Leslie's Weekly completing illustrations of American troops in Cuba. Later in his career, Christy was most sought after for his skill in portraiture. His sumptuous portraits of women, such as the one offered here, were among his most desired subjects. He also captured many famous figures such as Calvin Coolidge, Douglas McArthur, Eddie Rickenbacker, Amelia Earhart, Herbert Hoover and Benito Mussolini.
