Description:

Ida Rittenberg Kohlmeyer (American/New Orleans, 1912-1997), "Untitled (Cluster Series)", 1974, mixed media on paper, signed and dated lower left, 29 in. x 36 1/4 in., framed. Provenance: Estate of Rod McKuen (1933-2015), Beverly Hills, CA. Note: In 1973, Ida Kohlmeyer began the Cluster series, with each composition dominated by a grid filled expressive and vividly colored forms. “The series represents the first style that was identified solely with Kohlmeyer, and she embraced it as expressive of her artistic aims.” The work offered here is a beautiful example of a grid painting and relates to the best examples she produced during this period, including Cluster 1-73A in the collection of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA.
