James Pitot and Père Antoine (Padre Antonio de Sedella) Autograph Document Signed, signed by James Pitot (1761-1831) the second Mayor of New Orleans, Padre Antonio de Sedella (d. 1829), and Isaac Cox Barnet (d. 1833), 3 pages, 12 1/2 in. x 8 in., with Mayor's paper seal and blindstamp of the Great Seal of the United States. Note: Padre Antonio de Sedella (Pere Antoine) (1748-1829) was a Capuchin friar, who served as parish priest in New Orleans from 1785-1790 and 1795-1805. He was sent to Louisiana as commissary of the Inquisition in 1779. He was pastor of St. Louis Cathedral during the period following the Louisiana Purchase. Isaac Cox Barnet served as U.S. Consul in Belgium and France, and was a known correspodent with the Marquis de Lafayette. The document discusses, in Spanish, the baptism of A.B. Roman's brother-in-law Charles Parent, certifying that he is the heir of the family estate. Provenance: From the heirs of the estate of André Bienvenu Roman, the 9th Governor of Louisiana, in office 1831-1835 and 1839-1843.
