  • Notes: Note: Alaux is the seventh generation of a family of painters and architects. A beloved artist in his native country, he has been the recipient of numerous awards since his graduation from the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. By his mid 20s he had won the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Prix du Concours, and the gold medal at the Magasin du Printemps. In 1975 Alaux was named painter to the French Ministry of Marine and made a painter of Air and Space in 1993 In 1988 he was elected a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur. Admired for his often surrealist and fantastical paintings, Alaux had his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1951; he then went on to take part in shows in Brussels, New York, Boston, Japan, and Germany. In 1970 he had a solo exhibition in New Orleans. Alaux frequently incorporates women into his works, combining their images with his own personal mythology and symbolism, as he does with this painting.
