- Provenance: Provenance: Ex Collection of the Maison Bourbon, Bourbon Street, French Quarter, New Orleans. Note: The date on this portrait of Louis Armstrong of "July 4th, 1976" is mostly likely a sly allusion to the controversy surrounding the date of his birth. Armstrong believed he was born on the fourth of July in 1900, but the discovery of his baptismal records revealed that he was actually born on August 4th, 1901.
