John D. Perry (American/Boston, b. 1845), "Portrait Bust of a Gentleman, probably a Statesman", 1870, carved white marble, initialed "J.P." and dated, socle base, height 25 3/8 in Note: John D. Perry produced smaller Parian sculptures with the James Carr Pottery Co. (active beginning in 1853). Comparable works by Perry are conserved at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Harvey D. Parker, 1874, acc. #02.446) and at the Newark Museum (Charles Sumner, 1874, acc. #24.69).
