A Rare Mississippi Coin Silver Coffee and Tea Service, ret. John A. and Julius N. Klein, Vicksburg, MS, c. 1854, marked "KLEIN & BRO.", "COIN" incuse marks and with pseudo hallmarks; comprised of a coffee pot, teapot and covered creamer, each pear form with floral repousse on a stippled ground, applied beaded footband, domed cover with melon finial; coffee pot height 10 1/2 in., combined weight 62.05 troy ozs Note: John and Julius Klein began their careers as silversmiths in Leesburg, VA. In 1836 John moved to Vicksburg, MS., and by 1841 he and S.H. Wilson had formed the partnership, Wilson & Klein, which operated in Vicksburg and Yazoo City, MS for a decade. Julius joined his brother in Vicksburg in the early 1850s and they formed the firm Klein & Brother. In the 1850s Klein & Brother advertised as manufacturers of silver.P John Klein's handsome c. 1840 Greek Revival home overlooking the Mississippi River, Cedar Grove, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
