  • Notes: Note: Carstairs was born John Keys in London, the son of a comedian. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Paris Salon. Besides working as an artist, Carstairs was a renowned film director and the author of over thirty novels. His works are in the collections of Trinity College in Oxford, City Art Gallery in Manchester, and Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery in Fifeshire.
