John Tarrell Scott (American/New Orleans, 1940-2007), "Pass it On", stainless steel sculpture, signed on raised base, 1998, height 8 in. x depth 2 1/2 in., accompanied by preliminary ink drawing, signed and dated "7-23-98" lower right, 11 3/4 in. x 9 1/2 in., unframed. Provenance: Commissioned by Xavier University's Cluster Organization celebrating their 30th anniversary. The sculptures were officially issued on February 9th 1999 and include a signed certificate of authenticity by the artist. Printed on the certificate, "This work symbolizes the notion of the helping hand, passing on that which we have been fortunate enough to gain on our own merit and with the help of others. We shelter the young in the palm of our hand that they may grow strong, prosper and accept their place of responsibility in Society. John Scott"
