Note: New Orleans photographer, Pops Whitesell, was known for his abilities at group photography, demonstrating his techniques in this charming photograph of a gathering of his friends and fellow photographers in "Studio Party at Whitesell Studio". After graduating from Newcomb College, Juanita Gonzales (1902-1935) studied with the avant garde cubist sculptor Alexanader Archipenko. Returning to New Orleans, Gonzales opened a studio on Governor Nicholls Street in the French Quarter and created innovative clay sculptures and pottery. Tragically, she died at 33 years old, after a prolonged illness.
