Massie to be one of the city's leading artists whose work was praised "both at home and abroad". Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Massie's family moved to New Orleans when she was a child. As a promising young artist, Massie studied art with local artists Paul Poincy, Andres Molinary and Bror Anders Wikstrom at the Artists' Association of New Orleans. The charming painting "A Glimpse of a Country House" reveals her talent as a landscape painter and is inscribed with her uptown New Orleans address of 5919 Tchoupitoulas on the back of the stretcher.
