Description:

Larry Zingale (American, b. 1938), "The Yellow Dress", 1996, oil on canvas, signed mid-left, signed, titled and dated en verso, 14 in. x 11 in., framed. Note: Larry Zingale is a self-taught American folk artist. He was discovered in 1973 by New York gallerist, Gisela Fabian of Fabian Gallery, who overheard a friend remark that his works were better than those being exhibited at her gallery. She offered to look at Zingale’s pieces, and shortly thereafter, she placed them in her show of important American self-taught artists. As is demonstrated by the painting offered here, Zingale’s works are defined by their two-dimensional rendering of subject matter as well as bold areas of color. Zingale’s works are included in collections of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, Nelson Rockefeller Collection in New York, and the Fenimore House Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
