Louis C. Girault (American/Louisiana, active New Orleans, 1870-1892), 'Cabin and Boat on the Bayou', oil on canvas, signed 'L.C. Girault after Clague' lower left, 10 in. x 15.75in., in a period gilt frame. Note: Louis Girault worked in New Orleans as a cigar and tobacco merchant and a cooper, and also pursued his career as an artist. As attested by the inscription, Girault based this charming painting on the work of Richard Clague, the premier Louisiana landscape painter.
