Lot 425
[Louis XIV and Pontchartrain Autograph Grouping], document signed, by Louis XIV, King of France (1638-1715) and co-signed by Jerome Phelypeau, Comte de Pontchartrain (1674-1747), dated April, 1715, Versailles, an order authorizing payment by the French Court, together with a second document signed by Louis Phelypeau, Comte de Pontchartrain (1643-1727), dated 1707, Dijon, a warrant dismissing judgment against a lien, matted and framed with a print of Louis XIV, sight 13.75in. x 8.5in., 9.75in x 13 in., respectively. Note: Louis XIV, the 'Sun King', undertook a series of wars with neighboring countries, yet is most remembered for impoverishing the masses as he reigned at the height of France's 'Golden Age.' Both Louis and Jerome Phelypeau, Comtes des Pontchartrains, were members of the small circle of Louis XIV's most important advisors. Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana is named after the elder as is Fort Pontchartrain (Detroit).
