Description:

Lulu King Saxon (American/New Orleans, 1855-1927), "Louisiana Cabin Scene", oil on board, signed in red lower right, "Seebold Gallery, New Orleans" label en verso, 6 1/4 in. x 9 1/8 in., period frame. Note: Lulu King Saxon was active in the art world of New Orleans between 1884 and 1922. She was a member of the Artists’ Association of New Orleans and studied under Andres Molinary and Bror Anders Wikstrom. Her work was exhibited at the World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in 1884-85, and she was awarded the gold medal by the Artists’ Association of New Orleans in 1888. The influence of her teacher Molinary is quite evident in the painting offered here as the work certainly bears strong stylistic similarities to his Louisiana landscape paintings. A small composition with a bayou cabin and stand of trees in the foreground, the painting is truly a little gem.
