Description:

Lyle Bongé (American/Mississippi, 1929-2009), "Mardi Gras Shoes", silver gelatin print, unsigned, sight 6 1/2 in. x 9 1/2 in., attractively matted and framed.

  • Notes: Note: The son of Southern artists, the photographer Bonge was exposed to art throughout his formative years, eventually studying the fine arts at Black Mountain College in North Carolina. In 1955 Bonge headed to New Orleans with a Nikon and photographed the Mardi Gras festivities. In these distinctive black and white images, Lyle captures the spirit of revelry with a fresh perspective, revealing the humor and hubris of Fat Tuesday.
