A Fine American Classical Mahogany, Bronze-Mounted and Giltwood Pier Table, early 19th c., marble top above a narrow molded frieze, gilt volute brackets, bronze-mounted columnar supports, mirror back flanked by pilasters, plinth with oval inset marble, on massive paw feet, height 39 1/2 in., width 48 1/2 in., depth 20 in Note: This table is identical to a table attributed to Joseph Barry pictured in Fennimore and Trump. "Joseph B. Barry, Philadelphia Cabinetmaker", The Magazine Antiques. (May 1989) pl. XIII, p. 1223. The ovoid well on this table has a marble slab base supported by wood slats. Joseph Barry's will lists a "wine cooler and pier table," and the inset well on this table could accommodate a cistern. Reference: Fennimore and Trump. Ibid.
