[Mardi Gras , A Collection of Glass Plate Negatives for the 1903 Opelousas Carnival Parade, eleven 5 x 7 glass negatives for photographs of eight (3 duplicates) original watercolor float designs by Deutschmann Brothers, titles of floats include; 'Receiving the Queen of Sheba', 'Fairies of the Spring', 'The Dwarfs, Home of the Wicked Fairies', 'Musical Elves', 'Castle of the Sleeping Beauty' and others, each 5 in x 7 in Note: two with broken corners E500-700 Note: On Mardi Gras Day of 1903, the rural Louisiana community of Opelousas organized a one-time grand celebration According to the local paper, 'Today puts forth a Mardi Gras Carnival unequaled, unexcelled, unsurpassed by any other town of its size.' Opelousas, which at the time had a population of 5,000, attracted a crowd of over 15,000 people to the parade and event that day To insure the quality of the parade, the Deutschmann Brothers of New Orleans were hired to design the eight floats.
