Description:

[Mardi Gras], Brors Anders Wikstrom (Swedish/New Orleans, 1854-1909, active New Orleans, 1883-1909), a pair of Rex costume designs, c. 1890-1900, watercolor on paper, 9 3/8 in. x 7 3/8 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Wikstrom was designer of the Rex pageants for 25 years and of the Proteus pageants for 10 years. His Proteus work is now in the Tulane University Collection. However, examples of his Rex work are rare: even though each year's work included 120 costume plates, only several dozen have survived. Schindler, Henri, Mardi Gras: New Orleans, Flammarion, 1997, pp. 117-119.
