Margaret Bourke-White (American, 1904-1971), "Campbell's Soup #6", 1935-1937, pencil-signed en recto the mat, stamped "Bourke-White from Pictures Inc." en verso and titled in pencil, unframed. E2500-3500 Note: Campbell's introduced Chicken Noodle Soup in 1934 and began to manufacture its own cans in 1936, a period when Margaret Bourke-White had already risen to prominence as a photo-journalist and industrial photographer. In 1935 she was hired by Henry Luce as staff photographer for his influential new Life magazine, and produced the cover for its first issue in November 1936. This photograph was probably part of a commission from Campbell's to document its new factory production.
