E4000-6000 Provenance: Antiquarian Frances Tobin, Royal Street, New Orleans. Note: Daughter of the prominent New Orleans art dealer W.E. Seebold, Marie Madeleine Seebold was introduced to the arts at a young age and was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist. Seebold studied with William Merritt Chase in New York City and at the Chicago Art Institute, and locally with Paul Poincy, George David Coulon and Andres Molinary. She maintained a long term relationship with Molinary and married him on his deathbed in 1915. A talented painter, Seebold became particularly well known for her charming still life paintings of fruit and flowers.
