Description:

Marie Madeleine Seebold Molinary (American-New Orleans, 1866-1948), 'Shrimp Boat at Sunset', oil on canvas affixed to board, signed lower left, 13.5 in. x 11 in., in a period frame. E5000-7000 Note: As proprietor of Seebold's Art Gallery on Canal Street, Frederick Seebold encouraged his daughter Marie to become an artist. Growing up Marie was introduced to the talented group of artists working in Louisiana and represented by her father. She studied with William Merritt Chase in New York and then at the Art Institute of Chicago. In New Orleans, she established a long-term relationship with the artist Andres Molinary. She became his model, companion and student and married him shortly before his death in 1915. This painting of 'Shrimp Boats at Sunset' reflects the influences of the nineteenth century Louisiana landscape tradition on her work. Ref: H.
