Description:

Marie Roussel (American, active New Orleans, 1894-5), "Louisiana Landscape with a Bridge", watercolor on paper (circular), signed and dated "97" lower left, diameter 3 3/8 in., matted and framed.

  • Notes: Note: Artist and writer Marie Roussel spent one season in New Orleans in the late nineteenth century. While in the city, she painted landscapes of the distinctive bayous and waterways of Southern Louisiana. She also founded the short-lived French language magazine La Revue. Soon after that she married and moved, first to Galveston, Texas, and later to Mexico. This beautifully rendered miniature watercolor depicts a dirt road leading to a wooden bridge.
