Description:

Martin Grelle (American/Texas, b. 1954), "Warrior Alone", 1997, oil on canvas, signed, dated and inscribed "CA" lower right, 18 in. x 14 in., framed with artist and title plaque. Note: One of the most recognized Western artists today, Martin Grelle began drawing and painting while in high school and was fortunate to have well-known Western artists, Jim Boren and Melvin Warren, move to his hometown of Clifton, TX. Mentored by Boren, Grelle had his first one-man show at a local gallery as a teenager in 1973, and in the following forty-three years, his work has been featured in more than thirty solo exhibitions nationwide to wide acclaim. He was invited to be a member of the Cowboy Artists of America in 1995. Among his other numerous prestigious awards, Grelle was presented the Legacy Award by The Briscoe Museum in 2012 for his impact on Western art. Grelle’s passion for the Old West is evident in his striking landscapes and historical portraits. In the work offered here, depicting a lone warrior, Grelle emphasizes the color and texture of his light-filled landscape to perfectly highlight the carefully-detailed figure and horse.
