Maubert (French, fl. 1840-1860), a collection of four original botanical illustrations to L'Horticulteur Français de Mille Huit Cent Cinquante et Un including: "Cestrum roseum"; "Melostoma rosea"; "Kennedia coccinea (Kennedy's Pea)"; and "Impatiens roylana (Himalayan Balsam)", c. 1869, each pencil and watercolor, heightened with gum arabic, within artist's brown-lined border, the first and third signed lower left in brown ink "Maubert pinx", the first inscribed in pencil "Cestrum roseum", the third 'Kennedia maryatta' [sic.], sight 13 in. x 9 1/8 in., framed. Note: Little is known of Maubert other than the extensive body of published work, which includes illustrations for Francis Boott's Illustrations of the genus Carex (London: 1858-1867); H.Jaubert & E.Spach Illustrationes plantarum Orientalium (Paris: 1842-1857); Charles Lemaire Iconographie descriptive des cactées (Paris: 1841-47) and many others.
