Meeks, New York, shaped cartouche form with elaborate pierced carvings enclosing a mirror plate and three shelves, height 57 1/2 in., width 22 in., depth 15 in Illustrated: Dubrow. American Furniture of the 19th c. 1840-1880. p. 68. Note: This rare "encoigneur" is an early example of the innovative pierced panels that appear as details in important American furniture of the 1850's and 1860's.
