Mercer Davis (American-New Orleans, 1901-1987), 'Composition', acrylic and pastel on paper, unsigned, sight 21 in. x 26.75 in. E200- 400 Provenance: Painting listed as no. 47 in the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts 'Memorial Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings of Mercer Davis' in October of 1987. Descended through the family of the artist Note: Mercer Davis began his studies in art in New Orleans with Harry Nolan and furthered his studies at the Art Students League in New York City and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Davis opened a gallery on Royal Street in 1952 and joined the active art community of artists and writers who lived and work in the French Quarter. In 1964, he moved to Carriere, Mississippi and continued his career as an artist.
