Description:

Morris Henry Hobbs (American/New Orleans, 1892-1967), "The Aquarium", 1944, etching, pencil-signed, titled, dated and inscribed in lower margin, edition of 200, signed letter from the artist en verso, plate 9 1/2 in. x 6 3/4 in., framed.
Note: Morris Henry Hobbs wrote about his intentions for this print in a March 24, 1944 letter to Ralph Pons that accompanies this lot: "THE AQUARIUM...is the result of a period of experimentation in trying to use aquarium fishes [sic] in a decorative pattern, at the same time making the drawings of the individual fishes accurate enough that they may be identified by any one familiar with the various species. The plate contains drawings of seventeen fishes, of eight species and six varieties of aquarium plants".
