Description:

Myron Lechay (Russian/New York City, 1898-1972, active New Orleans, 1921-1929), "New Orleans, Old French Quarter", oil on canvas, signed, titled, and dated "'26" en verso, 20 in. x 30 1/8 in., framed.

  • Notes: Note: A member of the New York avant-garde art scene in the early twentieth century, Myron Lechay was mentored by both the artist Stuart Davis and Valentine Dudensing, owner of Valentine Gallery. During the summer months, Lechay would venture from the city to embark on sketching trips to Gloucester, Massachusetts and Kennebunkport, Maine. From 1921 to 1929, he lived and worked in New Orleans, where he earned critical acclaim for his paintings of the historic city. Known for his delicate use of color, Lechay employs modernist elements in this rendering of the buildings and palm trees of the French Quarter.
