Noel Rockmore (American/New Orleans, 1928-1995), 'Drag (Alcide 'Slow Drag' Pavageau)', oil on canvas, signed and dated 'April 8, '63', titled upper left, E.L. Borenstein Collection catalogue sheet en verso, 30.25 in. x 24.25 in., together with the exhibition catalogue for the 1964 retrospective show of Rockmore's work. E4000-6000 Provenance: Estate of E. Larry Borenstein, New Orleans. Note: The bass player Alcide 'Slow Drag' Pavageau was one of most colorful and popular of the Preservation Hall musicians. Around 1927, 'Slow Drag' constructed a three-string bass and soon after mastered the instrument He toured with the leading bands of the day including George Lewis, Bunk Johnson, Sweet Emma and Punch Miller. In 1961, 'Slow Drag' became the acting grand marshal of the Eureka Brass Band.
